HEAD ROUTESETTER

**MUST HAVE PREVIOUS COMMERCIAL SETTING EXPERIENCE**

The Head Routesetter is responsible for overseeing the quality, member satisfaction, and continued growth of all things routesetting at Vertical World facilities. They must be able to set obtainable goals to inspire growth and consistency in route quality, communicate budgetary needs with Vertical World management, as well as motivate and support a high moral setting crew. 

They are entrusted with controlling the core aspect of Vertical World climbing gyms.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Weekly setting schedule 
  • Manage and motivate a setting team
  • Maintaining gym rotations and distributions 
  • Training routesetters using VW training protocols 
  • Close communication with operations and gym managers 
  • Hiring, terminations, reviews 
  • Communicating ordering needs of equipment: Gear, tools, holds, etc. 
  • Managing setter hours and labor expense expectations 
  • Executing required safety inspections and repairs of climbing walls 
  • Organizing and executing competitions and events 

Requirements: 

  • Exceptional leadership skills 
  • Self-motivated and able to act independently 
  • Minimum 3 years full time setting experience 
  • Great communication, computer, organizational, and managerial skills 
  • Ability to deal with difficult circumstances with a positive attitude 
  • Understanding of what a good setting program is and the balance needed between operations and routesetters 
  • Intimate knowledge of high access work outside and inside of climbing wall 
  • Ability to teach high access methods 

This is a full time hourly position and pay is dependent on experience, but ranges from $21-$25 per hour.

ROUTESETTER

**MUST HAVE PREVIOUS COMMERCIAL SETTING EXPERIENCE**

The job of a Routesetter is to deliver the primary product consumed by Vertical World clientele – climbing. It is the duty of a VW Routesetter to consistently produce industry leading routes and boulders at any given VW location. Routesetters report directly to each facilities Head Routesetter or Gym Manager.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Setting 2-5 days a week (Depends on full time or part time)
  • Show up on time and ready to work
  • Be an active part of a motivating and positive setting environment
  • Execute any tasks or goals from Head Setter or Gym Manager
  • Keep up to date with training material from Head Setter
  • Executing tasks in a timely manner
  • Meet efficiency and quality expectations of Head Setter
  • Maintain a clean work space
  • Keep climbing wall surfaces and equipment up to VW and manufacturer standards
  • Set for competitions and events at VW
  • Any other tasks that are delegated from Head Setter or Gym Manager

Preferred Experience and Abilities :

  • Previous commercial setting experience
  • Ability to set 2-3 rope routes and 5-10 boulders in a day
  • High access rope skills
  • Self-motivated, hard-working, and able to act independently
  • Previous experience working in an environment where feedback/constructive criticism is welcomed and desired
  • Ability to deal with difficult circumstances with a positive attitude
  • Competition experience and USAC certification

This is a full time OR part time hourly position and pay is dependent on experience, but ranges from $18-$22+ per hour.

YOUTH PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR

Youth Program Instructors teach rock climbing classes and camps to students who are 3 to 17 years old. We have two seasons of our youth programs, September through June and late June through August. Our school year programs are year-long, while we also offer single day camps during school breaks. During the summer our focus is week-long day camps and month-long programs. Youth Programs Instructors also lead groups, parties and rock climbing experiences that come in for one-time experiences.

Job Description:

  • Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans for students (i.e. technique, climbing challenges, games)
  • Create an appropriate balance of safety, technical skill, and fun in class
  • Work in cooperation with a co-instructor
  • Track student progress
  • Manage a class of students with diverse ability and interest levels

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth, ages 3-17
  • Personal climbing and top rope belay experience
  • Enthusiasm for both kids and climbing
  • First aid and CPR certifications (can be completed after hire date)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching climbing
  • Experience leading groups of 8 or more children.
  • Lead climbing experience
