Spring Jam

Spring Jam FAQ
Will there be jam?
Of course! And a DJ!
Will there be food?
Yes! Each competitor receives a meal ticket. All others can purchase. Details TBD
Can I just watch?
Of course you can watch! The more the merrier! Everyone in the building will be required to fill out a waiver and put on a wristband denoting whether they are a competitor or observer. Observing is free.
Is there anything to do if I am not competing and don’t want to watch?
Yes! In addition to the competition, we will have a biergarten, raffle, games, vendors, and a live DJ. Oh yeah, and a bunch of awesome people to spend a Friday night with.
What is the Schedule of the event?
- 5PM Competitor Check-in
- 5:45PM Rules Meeting
- 6-9PM Competition
- 9:15PM Winners
- 9:30 Raffle
- 10:00 Gym Closed
What are the rules of the comp?
Check out the rules of the comp here (coming soon).
What are the prizes?
We have a bunch of prizes from climbing brands like Petzl, Himali, Edelrid, Joshua Tree, and more! Want to find out more? Come to the comp!
If I am not a crusher, do I have any chance of winning anything?
We’re glad you asked!
First, you are a crusher regardless of your grade. This is a team-style comp with three categories: Youth (ages 0-13), Adult (14-39), Masters (40-108). In addition to the 30-40 (TBD) comp-style routes, all other gym routes will be IN for the comp! You can earn points no matter what you climb!
At 9pm, every team will add their points from the climbs they completed, divide that number by their number of team members, and then get extra raffle tickets determined by their points earned. Scorecards will then be turned in to determine the winning team, with prizes awarded to 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place teams. Now it is Raffle Time! Place your tickets in the jar(s) of your choosing to try to win the prize(s) you most want!
Is this one of those super serious comps?
Not at all! We are putting on a comp to let those among us who love to compete go nuts. But we also want everyone to have access to the benefits of friendly competition. By giving everyone a chance to win, we are affirming that this is a chill event for everyone.
The most important thing is that you come, make friends, and have fun!
Can I get prizes if I don’t participate in the comp?
Yes! We will be having a raffle. Each ticket costs $5 and all proceeds benefit the Team Fund 501(3)(c) supporting youth climbing.
How much is this going to cost me?
If you’re a member it’s $25. If you’re not, it’s $50. Cost includes meal ticket, raffle ticket, and a T-shirt.
Where should I park if the parking lot is full?
Getting a parking spot will likely be more competitive than the climbing competition, and very few of us will win. That said, there are lots of parking opportunities on 121st Street SW, Paine Field Community Park (during daylight hours), and beyond. Make sure to stay out of the parking lot just to our north, as they are likely to tow. Please observe our Fire Lane No-Parking Areas, clearly marked.
For the sake of the planet, PLEASE CARPOOL.
My kid is on Team. Can they participate?
Yes! This is not a USA Climbing qualifying event, but still great practice!
Can I take a belay test the day of Spring Jam?
Nope! We won’t have time or space to do belay checks the day-of, so if you plan on belaying at the comp, take your test any day before.
I am out of town for Spring Jam. Will there be more cool events in the future?
Oh yeah. We intend to do Spring Jam yearly. Beyond that, we have a whole bunch of cool events coming out for the rest of the year, including Summer Slam, Friday, September 5th at Vertical World Seattle, monthly Friday Night Mixers at North, and Friday Movie Nights benefitting Washington Climbers coalition at the Seattle gym. Stay tuned to find out more 😉
